OPPORTUNITY

According to Barry Freeman, PhD and Ian Windmill, PhD, in 2011 there were only 9050 licensed hearing aid specialists and 9000 audiologists in the US of which up to 41% (between the ages of 41 and 50) are leaving the field each year due to retirement, death or illness. They estimate that an additional 23,000 professionals will be needed by 2030 just to maintain the current level of service.

Despite the prevalence of hearing loss, a large portion of affected people have not received the help they need — which means hearing health care is a largely untapped industry.

  • 95% could be successfully treated with hearing aids
  • 60% of people with hearing loss are below retirement age.
  • Only 1 in 4 hearing-impaired individuals has received hearing help

This looming shortage is amplified in rural communities like Southeastern New Mexico. Currently there are only a handful of qualified hearing healthcare professionals in our area who serve the growing number of hearing impaired residents.
